How to ask questions that help you heal
I had two patients within the last week or so that asked questions that were like music to my ears.
Here's what they were.
So what's my homework?
Why did I like this question?
Because it told me that she was ready to do something about her health.
I said to her, “Your homework is to pick one meal that you're going to do a really good job on, and you're going to set criteria for what it means to do a really good job on. And you're going to get a calendar, and every day that you do a really good job on that one meal, you're going to put an X or a check mark. That is your homework.”
Okay, here was the second question.
I'm at my wit's end with this. What do you suggest? I'm willing to do the work.
Why did I like this question?
In her question was this inherent willingness, commitment, consideration that she could for some time put herself first and maybe do something kind for herself.
Here's what I told her.
“If you're really committed to getting inflammation out of your system and releasing weight, then here's the system I would recommend. “It's called the Metabolism Plan by Lyn-Genet Recitas, and it is my favorite food as medicine healthy aging eating program that I've come across in almost 20 years of practice as a naturopathic doctor thus far.”
I love these questions. They were music to my ears.
Now, I know that not everybody is in that place, in that place of willingness and readiness to make big drastic changes in their diet and in their lifestyle. I know how much commitment that takes. I know how much time, energy, bandwidth it takes.
Sometimes we need to start in a different place, which is why I'm very happy to offer IV nutrient therapies in Nanaimo, British Columbia to give people a bit of a metabolic lift, giving their cells the nutrients they need to create energy for you to:
Improve your focus
Balance your immune system
Increase your tolerance for stress so your experience of stress goes down.
And then maybe then, maybe then you have the readiness or the willingness to ask these types of questions like,
“So what's my homework?”
And
“I'm at my wit's end with this. What do you suggest I'm willing to do the work?”
Or maybe not, but at least you're going to feel good. And if you’re into that, then I'm happy to help. You’re in the perfect place.
